The building should be designed with the sun in mind. It shouldn’t just be the walls that are insulated, but also the foundation and the windows. These decisive factors drastically lower the use of energy, because the stored warmth (or coolness in Summer) won’t be expelled through the outer shell.
External planting is specifically designed, so that in Summer shadows fall on the building, and in the Winter the sun keeps the external walls warm.
The necessary heat requirement comes, in the first instance, directly or indirectly from the sun, and secondly from sources such as wood.
